We had our Fall Program Kick off a few Saturdays ago! It was a Pet Parade!
It went so well, and was an incredible amount of fun! We had a higher turnout than we were expecting, which is always wonderful, and the smiles I got when the kids introduced me to their pets (and stuffed animals) were the absolute best.
We paraded around the lot with parents and pets in tow, played a rousing game of Miss Molly Says, and then I awarded prizes to pets and their owners. We had awards like
The kids were so happy to show off their pets and play around with other pet owners their age.
In addition to the parade portion of the day, we also had several activity stations. We had a pet-themed craft, things like making wings, and an oreo-spider station. We also had a cheese tasting for the adults who gamely came out to support their children (both human and furred). They tried several cow cheeses and goat cheeses. I got an absolute kick out of this one. There are flies on the skewers because it goes with our over-arching theme of “There Was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly”. My boss and I whipped those up that morning. They were both revolting and amazing. The parents definitely got a laugh out of it. It’s so great that most library parents are game for such shenanigans.
There was also a nice article about us in one of the local papers. Check us out!
